Orlando popularity on the rise
Florida was once home to the Seminole Indians, back when no person in his right mind would seek to make his home or vacation there for fear of malarial mosquitoes and the mysterious swamp land that awaited them.
Nowadays, Florida is a hotspot for tourism, recreation and retirement homes. Since the boom of the 1980s, Florida`s housing industry has continued to grow. However, with this current economic downswing, many have decided to stay home. Vacation budgets are smaller and people have had to reestablish their priorities. And that is why this is the time to pounce on Florida`s housing market.
According to CNNMoney.com, “building permits for single-family homes were up 60% in the first two months of 2010 compared to the same period a year earlier.” In 2005, most of the housing market was focused on extravagant homes for those with a lot of money in the bank, but now that the economy is in a rut, land is inexpensive and builders are buying it up in record numbers. You may ask how this can be profitable with so many foreclosures, but the answer lies with young and first time buyers.
For one couple who bought a 2,000 square foot home for $165,000 in Orlando last month, they found it was less of a hassle and less expensive to buy new than to pick up a foreclosed home. The foreclosed home would have needed new lighting fixtures, wall holes patched and electrical work done. Their newly built home was ready to go.
So, what does this mean for the vacation crowd? Less expensive and a greater choice of villa rentals, of course! You don`t need to own real estate in Florida to benefit from this upcoming real estate boom. Since most new homes are smaller and more affordable, people are grabbing them up while prices are low and this means the savings will be transferred on to you.
Orlando is the hub of the new small home boom, with hundreds more houses planned. Many of these homes are pegged to become rentals and time-shares. Therefore, the Florida vacationer doesn`t need to worry about booking a high-priced mansion whose space will hardly be used. Gone are the garish behemoths that cost an arm and a leg for a simple night rental. With the smaller housing market, vacationers will have more opportunity to enjoy the sites of Orlando such as Sea World, Walt Disney World, the Epcot Center, the Botanic Gardens and Universal Studios.
What`s better is that Orlando is central to everything. It`s only 56 miles southwest of Daytona Beach and an equal distance to the gulf shore. Additionally, there should be no more worries about the effects of the Gulf Oil Spill on Florida`s shores, as emergency efforts have worked hard to clean up the beaches.
